British Council Nepal recently organised a 6-day intensive course on Fundamentals of Teaching from 25 to 30 March 2018. A total of 25 teachers from different institutions including private and public schools and some educational consultancies came together to learn about different professional practices needed for effective teaching.

The course aimed to enhance teacher quality at all stages of a teacher’s career in order to improve the quality of learning that students receive. It included modules on Introduction to CPD Framework for teachers; Understanding Lesson Planning, Understanding how Students Learn; Understanding Lesson Management, Engaging with Vocabulary Teaching; Understanding approaches to inclusive learning, Understanding Assessment for Learning; ICT Embedded Learning, Understanding Professional Development; Understanding Resources, Developing 21st Century Skills and  Understanding Multilingual and Multicultural Approaches.

The training was very well received and participants spoke highly of the trainers, the content and the resources, “The trainers were excellent and the course content was relevant and very useful. It’s going to help me a lot in school,” said a teacher teaching in primary school.

“This course is a self- reflection for all teachers to rate and understand their own classroom practices. It introduced me to the innovative modules which will help me switch from the existing knowledge to a more skill based, learner friendlier, method through activities, games and resources,” said another teacher teaching at secondary level.
